Slowfish 2023 just ended: four days full of amazing events to rise people awareness about sustainable use of marine resources in the beautiful frame of the Porto Antico in Genoa.
GMC took the chance to be there and talk about the opportunity offered by Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to protect marine biodiversity while, at the same time, sustaining local traditional fisheries.
We presented the synergistic collaboration among researchers, fishers and local managers that are working on different projects in the Ligurian protected areas of Bergeggi, Portofino and Cinque Terre, supported by FEAMP funding to the three MPAs.
It was great to see people interest in how to make responsible choices about seafood, something that may greatly help preserve both marine biodiversity and the intangible cultural value of small-scale fisheries that follow sustainable models of socio-economic development.
