MPAs have the objective to preserve the biodiversity at sea, while protecting the cultural diversity whose vector are local people. The communities of fishers along the Mediterranean coasts make part of the 'marine' context, but they are often in trouble, due to the inappropriate socio-economic development taking place especially in coastal touristic locations: the 'Cinque Terre' is an example.

Last week, all the actors involved in the fishing and 'pesca-turismo' sectors have been interviewed, which allowed us to collect precious information that will be used in the next future to support the traditional activities related to local fishing, the relatively new 'pesca-turismo' sector and the consumption of local seafood by restaurants, so to support a local and more sustainable socio-economy.
